Activity Information & Itinerary

Doi Suthep Doi Pui National Park includes not only the rich natural resources of plants, wildlife and spectacular landscapes. It also showcases cultural resources featuring the interesting lifestyle of the hill tribe peoples and the Thai Lanna culture. The park covers 261.06 square km in the Muang Hang Dong, Mae Rim and Mae Taeng districts of Chiang Mai Province.

Many of the highest mountains of Doi Suthep-Pui National Park are in the Thanon Thongchai mountain range and are  considered foothills of the Himalayan mountain range. The mountains range between 330-1,685 m above mean sea level, providing an environment that is high in biodiversity as well as being relatively cool and wet. The area experiences more rainfall and is covered by mixed deciduous and dry evergreen forests.

The 5 forest types found in this park create a perfect habitat for wildlife, especially birds. There are 360 bird species found including resident and visitor species that migrate in the winter from Siberia and northern China.

Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, Chiang Mai

Wat Phra That Doi Suthep (Doi Suthep Temple) is an old, significant temple established in 1371 by King Kuena, of the Meng Rai dynasty as the holy landmark of Chiang Mai. The main features of this temple are the golden Chang Saen-styled pagoda and the breathtaking scenery of the city from the temple’s terrace. It is said that the Buddha’s relics lie at the base  of the golden pagoda.

Hmong Khun Chang Khian village is place where villagers still wear traditional Hmong clothes, sell traditional Hmong handicrafts and live in traditional Hmong-style homes. Normally, from late December to January, you can experience the exceptional sensation of Dok Namg Phaya Suea Khrong (Prunus cerasoides D.Don). These beautiful flowers blossom around the area of Khun Chang Khian.
