There’s great fishing through all 4 seasons, including exciting backcountry fishing on the region’s tributary rivers through winter. There is superb springtime action along the river mouths and beaches. That’s followed by excellent dry fly fishing throughout summer, and then the autumn fish migrations up the lake’s tributaries. Lake Taupo also offers lake trolling throughout the year, as well as targeting cruising fish in the shallows.
Lake Taupo is New Zealand’s largest lake and since the release of trout in the late 1800s the lake and its tributaries have proven themselves to be one of the best trout fisheries in the world. The lake is located on the North Islands “Central plateau” and the northern end of the lake has dozens of top-quality in-flowing rivers and streams.
